In Pakistan Bakr-Eid is an event to give and to sacrifice. It is a day to thank the God Almighty for one’s good fortune and to share it with the less fortunate people of Pakistan.
Eid-ul-Azha, translates as ‘the feast of sacrifice’. In Pakistan, Bakr-Eid is marked by the slaughter of animals as sacrificial offerings, after which the meat is distributed among the needy and underprivileged people of Pakistan.
In Pakistan festivities mark the first day, when people of Pakistan wear new clothes, offer prayers at the mosque, and greet friends and relatives. Bakr-Eid is celebrated all over Pakistan with much dedication, as it is in the rest of the Islamic world. The Eid Prayer is obligatory according to Islam. The Prophet (s.a.w.w.) always performed it and commanded the Ummah to attend it hence people in Pakistan do the same on Bakr-Eid. The name Bakr-Eid, however, is most popular in Pakistan. Except Pakistan the eid is usually referred to as Eid-ul-Azha.
In Pakistan Bakr-Eid is a time when the pop are remembered and the NGO’s also get donations in form of the skin of the animal slaughtered. Bakr-Eid is also known as the bari eid in Pakistan as the days of this eid are more then the Eid-ul-Fitr. Bakr-Eid is celebrated for four days in Pakistan.
Muslims of Pakistan and throughout the world celebrate the Bakr-Eid (Festival of Sacrifice) at the end of the Hajj -the annual pilgrimage to Mecca. In Pakistan and the rest of the world during the celebration of Bakr-Eid, Muslims remember and remember Prophet Abraham’s trials, by sacrificing an animal such as a sheep, cow, camel, or goat.
Bakr-Eid is the time of year when the people of Pakistan get together and enjoy the festivities of the day. Bakr-Eid like Eid-ul-Fitr is not known to be the sweet eid but more of a savory one for the animals that are slaughtered are cooked. On Bakr-Eid the meat dishes are more popular amongst the people of Pakistan.
In Pakistan many dinners are hosted and people tend to go to the houses of relatives and friends to share the happy times. Bakr-Eid is also very famous amongst children as they tend to keep animals for a week or so before they are slaughtered.
On Bakr-Eid people of Pakistan wear new clothes and buy new shoes to match their lovely dress. The women of Pakistan also wear mehdi on the hands to give celebration flare to the occasion.
